Lok Sabha elections 2019: Cong will ensure Sohna’s development, says Sachin Pilot
Sachin Pilot said the present BJP government only focuses on urban areas as it is a city-centric party with minimal focus on rural areas and farmers.
The Congress Wednesday reached out to people in Sohna, asking them to vote out the BJP government as there had been no development in the area. The party said whatever development had taken place in Sohna was under the previous government.
“When you enter Sohna from Gurugram, the entire scenario changes, as roads are in poor shape, schools are invisible, there is no major hospital and government colleges are non-existent,” said Sachin Pilot, the deputy chief minister of Rajasthan, who was addressing a rally in support of Congress candidate Ajay Singh Yadav at Damdama village, around 16-km from Gurugram.
Pilot said the present BJP government only focuses on urban areas as it is a city-centric party with minimal focus on rural areas and farmers. “Voting for the Congress and ensuring the victory of captain Yadav will only ensure development and prosperity of Sohna. This area is close to my heart because my father led a major agitation against setting up of a large recreational park in the area,” Pilot said.
Around 2,000 villagers from Damdama and other parts of Sohna village, predominantly belonging to the Gujjar community, attended the meeting.
Pilot also said the BJP was only hitting out at personalities such as Rajiv Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru as it wanted to evade real issues of unemployment, inflation, problems faced by farmers and traders and overall a poor business environment.
Addressing the gathering, captain (retd) Ajay Singh Yadav said a majority of projects of the BJP government had remained only on paper. “Not even a single kilometre of Metro rail was laid, of the 500 buses promised, only 50 are operational, the GMDA is a non-performer and HRERA has been of little help to homebuyers,” Yadav said. He also alleged that the BJP had discriminated against people of Mewat and no development works were carried out in the area.
“Today, I am elated to hear that youth leader Rakesh Daulatabad has also decided to support my campaign,” he said. Daulatabad is a Gurugram-based political activist, who had secured 66,000 votes in Badshahpur constituency as an independent candidate in the last assembly election. Congress leader Pradip Zaildar said support given by Daulatabad could be crucial for the party as he is known to have a good support base in the Badshahpur constituency.
The BJP, however, denied the allegations levelled by the Congress and said the party believed in equal development and its motto was ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka vikas’. “A large number of development schemes and projects were launched in Sohna and Mewat in the last 4.5 years. New feeder canal for water supply, new colleges and schools were opened and roads upgraded,” said Jawahar Yadav, BJP state spokesperson.
