Lok Sabha elections 2019: Gautam Gambhir promises app for citizens
Women’s security, education, tackling pollution and waste are some of the key promises made by Gambhir, who is make his electoral debut in the Lok Sabha elections, to make East Delhi the “best constituency”.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir released vision document for his constituency on Wednesday, days after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released its manifesto for the seat. He promised to start a Gautam-Gambhir mobile app, a citizen-centric service, information and grievance-redressal app.
Women’s security, education, tackling pollution and waste are some of the key promises made by Gambhir, who is make his electoral debut in the Lok Sabha elections, to make East Delhi the “best constituency”.
The AAP and Congress candidates Atishi and Arvinder Singh Lovely, respectively, have already presented their vision for the constituency. Though the BJP had said that it will not bring out any constituency-specific or Delhi-specific manifesto, the Bharatiya Janata Party members said Gambhir felt the need to present his vision.
When asked why the party has released a manifesto after AAP and Congress candidates presented theirs, Delhi BJP’s co-incharge Shyam Jaju said, “He is new to politics. This is just an attempt to tell people about his plan for the constituency. This has nothing to do with the AAP and the Congress coming out with their manifestos.”
Talking about his vision for the constituency, Gambhir said, “Unlike other parties, we will not promise things that we cannot deliver on. Manifesto includes things that I feel are needed in the area for its development. We have Ghazipur landfill site, which can be used effectively. We plan to develop it as a park. We also plan to start waste-to-wealth projects,” Gambhir said.
With focus on environment, the former opening batsman said the beautification of Yamuna riverfront and making the area greener by planting more trees and developing vertical gardens will be his top priority.
The BJP, too, like the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress has promised to work towards setting up a Delhi University campus in East Delhi.
To address the parking problem, Gambhir proposed undertaking more multi-level parking projects.
