Lok Sabha elections: ‘Mamata for goons, nirmamata for public’: PM Modi’s jibe at Bengal CM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a rally at Ranaghat in West Bengal, accused the state chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee of committing atrocities on the people of the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on her own turf.
Addressing a public meeting at Ranaghat in West Bengal, PM Modi accused the West Bengal chief minister of being soft on goons while being tough on the people of the state.
“The truth is Mamata is for goons, nirmamata (heartless) for the people,” PM Modi said.
In the same address, he said that when Mamata defeated the Communists, she continued their tradition of atrocities against the people.
“The people elected Mamata so that she could help them get rid of the atrocities of the Communist government. But the only thing that changed was her slogan, her logo and she also did exactly the same as the Communists,” he said and accused the West Bengal chief minister of betraying the people of the state.
He said that the TMC thought they would scare away the BJP workers with bombs, guns, swords and riots.
“If the BJP got scared of such things, the BJP would not have been able to bring about revolutionary ideas and become the biggest party of the world. We have reached here through our sacrifices. There is no place for violence in democracy,” he said.
Earlier, before his rally at Bolpur in West Bengal, he had tweeted, saying, “Didi will again be angry today, seeing the immense support for BJP in West Bengal.”
In an interview aired on Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that though they may be rivals in the electoral arena, he and the West Bengal chief minister shared a good relation.
“Despite all the rivalry, didi sends me kurtas every year. She also sends me sweets as she knows I am fond of Bengali sweets,” the PM told the actor during freewheeling interview conducted by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.
