A few lawyers also made their way into the rally and displayed placards and raised slogans.

The agitating lawyers paid no heed to former minister Sanjeev Baliyan when he tried to calm them down and shouted ‘go back’.

Later, a delegation of 20 lawyers and the representatives of social organisations met the chief minister. Sanjay Sharma, ex convener of the High Court Bench Sangharsh Samiti said that CM was convinced that demand was genuine but said that only the high court and the Supreme Court could take decision on it. Committee’s chairman Rajendra Singh Jani apprised the CM that there is no need of seeking permission from the apex court and the high court and suggested the CM to pass a resolution for setting up the bench in western UP to which the CM allegedly refused.

Police had barricaded at least four locations to stop lawyers from reaching at the rally venue. But lawyers dodged police and used alternate alleys to reach at the venue.

Meanwhile, lawyers and other staff in Kutchery of 22 districts of western UP staged strike in support of the demand for the HC bench.
