Man kills son, commits suicide in Thane after second wife seeks divorce

A music teacher from Thane alleged smothered his 7-year-old son — from his first wife —to death and later committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan on Wednesday.

Shoumik Ghosh left a suicide note in which he mentioned about his second wife seeking divorce. Ghosh wrote he would not be able to live without her and decided to take the drastic step.

He was a music teacher and would arrange music for events as well.

Inspector Nasir Kulkarni from Kasarwadavli police station said, “Ghosh and his second wife were divorcee before they met each other through a matrimonial site. The couple had been quarrelling regularly for the past few months. Relatives said they suspect Ghosh’s past, which he hid form his second wife, was behind their bickering. Also, his second wife had been living with her mother for the past two months.”

Cops said the next day Ghosh wrote the suicide note before smothering his son to death and then committed suicide after confirming that the child was dead.

Kulkarni said, “The incident came to light after Ghosh failed to open the door for his driver, after which the driver alerted the police. When the police broke open the door to enter Ghosh’s residence, they found his body lying on the floor with a piece of rope around his neck.”

He added, “His son’s body was next to him. Though we rushed them to Thane civil hospital, both were declared dead on arrival. The bodies will be handed over to the family after post mortem.”
