Pratyusha’s drinking caused all our fights: Rahul

Pratyusha Banerjee’s excessive drinking was the cause of our disputes, said her boyfriend, Rahul Raj Singh, in his statement to the Bangur Nagar police on April 2.

Pratyusha Banerjee was found hanging on April 1 at her Goregaon apartment, which she shared with Rahul Raj Singh, an actor-producer.

In the three-page-long statement, which is now part of the charge sheet filed by the Bangur Nagar police on Wednesday, Singh said Banerjee had taken loans from several finance companies and was depressed as she had to repay them. As she struggled to find work after her appearances on the show Power Couple, she did not have any money and this added to her tension.

“Due to her depression, she started drinking more,” Singh stated. He added that her behavior changed each time she consumed alcohol.

Singh said he repeatedly asked her to stop drinking but she did not listen.

He added that Banerjee and he had decided to get married after they bonded during their stint on Power Couple, after which, they visited Singh’s grandmother in Kolkata and his relatives in Ranchi on January 10.

He added that he left work early and came home that day.

“When I came home in the afternoon, I went to sleep. Banerjee said she would have a bath and sleep too. However, when I woke up, I saw her drinking in the living room. I asked her to stop drinking and sleep. She insisted on having one last drink,” Singh said.

Singh said he left for a meeting in the afternoon when Banerjee called him, crying. “Hence, I returned at 4:30 and found the door locked,” Singh stated.Singh said he called the watchman to help him open the door and asked the neighbor’s servant to enter the house from its balcony.

Singh said servant entered and screamed. On entering, they saw that Banerjee had hanged herself.
