The Panvel taluka police have booked two motorists for allegedly attacking a State Transport (ST) bus driver with iron rods on Monday night. The driver sustained severe injuries in the attack, said the police.

According to the police, the driver, Sandeep Chemte, 31, was driving towards Panvel city from Kevale village around 10pm when a car heading in the same direction tried to overtake the bus.
“The car’s driver was infuriated as he could not overtake the bus, which was on the right lane,” said an officer from Panvel taluka police station.
“When the bus halted at a stop near the village, the car’s driver and one more person abused Chemte and assaulted him with iron rods,” he said.
Chemte, who sustained severe injuries in the attack, was rushed to a hospital in the vicinity. He is now reportedly out of danger, said the police.
Another officer from the police station said, “The accused fled from the spot, but we have got the car’s registration number and are searching for them. We hope to solve the case soon.”
The police have booked the accused under sections 332, 353, 504 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
