Man beaten, robbed in ‘road rage’ case
NEW DELHI: In a suspected case of road rage, a 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten up by inebriated men who hit his car with their Safari SUV twice.
The men then allegedly robbed Rupesh Gaur of his cash and valuables near the Anand Vihar police station on Monday night.
Gaur, a resident of Krishna Nagar, was returning home with his brother Om Shankar after attending a function at Hallmark Banquet Hall in Karkardooma around 10.30 pm when a Safari SUV brushed past his car and then overtook his car near H ar go bind Enclave in east Delhi, police said.
One of the occupants of the car allegedly abused Gaur, who moved ahead without paying heed. When Gaur reached near the Anand Vihar police station, the car that had been following him hit his car a couple of times. When Gaur stepped out to see the damage caused to his car, he found that the occupants of the other car were consuming alcohol, police said.
In his complaint, Gaur alleged that he was hit by the butt of a revolver. He said the men snatched his gold chain and Rs 8,600. Gaur said the attackers had asked his younger brother to step out of the car but he didn’t give in and they fled after damaging Gaur’s mobile phone so that he won’ t be able to contact police, said a senior police officer.
“After Gaur approached the police, a case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery ),397 (Robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees, 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) IPC was registered,” said the officer.
Police have the number of the car that hit Gaur’s vehicle and have launched a man hunt for the accused. They are also scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed on the route on which the crime took place.
