The anti-narcotics cell (ANC) of the Mumbai crime branch on Tuesday arrested a woman for allegedly peddling mephedrone (MD), popularly known as meow meow among revellers, worth Rs4.30 lakh.

The drug had been included last year in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and has created a menace in the city and its outskirts. It is an instant hit among youth as it is an inexpensive substitute to other drugs such as cocaine and MDMA.
Acting on a specific information, received by ANC chief DCP Shivdeep Lande, a team of officials and men from the Worli unit of ANC laid a trap near Briahmumbai Municipal Corporation’s gate no.2 on the Babula Tank Cross Road in B ward.
The woman reached there with 215 grammes of MD. The team caught her and seized the drug from her. She has been arrested under sections 8 (c) and 22 of NDPS Act. The police will seek her custody before a court. The ANC is probing to find out the source of the stimulant.
