The proposed Navi Mumbai airport has run into fresh trouble. The union Ministry of Environment and Forest has returned the reports of the May 16 public hearing and environment impact assessment to the state, asking it to clarify various objections.

"There were a lot of infirmities during the public hearing. We have asked the government to go through Coastal Regula-tory Zone [CRZ] clearances," said Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh on Monday.
Of the 1,140 hectares for the Panvel airport, one-fourth of the land falls under CRZ with mangroves and water bodies on it.
"Till we are convinced that mangroves will not be cut, we can’t build the airport," said Ramesh.
"We have not received the letter yet," said Valsa Nair Singh, state environment secretary.
