Busy as she is with her work engagements, singer and music composer Jasleen Royal still finds time to scout for new talent. The singer, who has a show coming up in Bangalore next month, apart from pending work for films, is currently on a work trip to Punjab.
“I travel to a lot of places, and I am planning to go to different villages here. I meet a lot of people, but I don’t know what I am going to do with that. I find a lot of inspiration,” she says.
Jasleen makes it a point to search for raw, untapped talent on trips as these. “Recently, I met this guy who plays the tumbi (a traditional north Indian music instrument) near Ludhiana, and he’s known as ‘tumbi wala’. I am working on a song, so he played the tumbi on its tune. When he sang the song to base his tune on, I loved his voice. I am aiming to get such people, who have not been discovered or are very raw,” reveals Jasleen, whose work for Hichki was appreciated a lot earlier this year. Her song Laaj Sharam from Veere Di Wedding that was out recently, is also getting a good response.

{{/usCountry}}The 26-year-old singer, who broke into Bollywood with the song Preet from Sonam Kapoor-starrer Khoobsurat, has also composed music for films such as Fukrey Returns (Pai Gaya Khalara), Baar Baar Dekho (Nachde Ne Saare) and Phillauri (Din Shagna Da). Is she is content with the way her career is shaping up, Jasleen says, “I don’t know, I am just making music. I am next working on a film called Gulab Jamun, which is going to hit the floors really soon. I have a song in the upcoming film Gully Boys (starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt), too. My Veere Di Wedding song came out recently, so I am in a happy space.”
