The project will include nearly 100 roads of different widths, including 11 major roads in DLF, Shalimar Garden, Janakpuri, Ardhana, Vaishali and Kaushambi. Corporation officials said the work on different roads, including the interior roads, may take some three-four months to complete.

“Repair work on some smaller roads may get completed earlier; it may take longer to repair the bigger, arterial roads that handle more traffic. The repair works will include patchwork and resurfacing. There are some road patches where the surface has crumbled completely, these will be our top priority,” Ghaziabad municipal commissioner CP Singh said.

Apart from repairing road, the corporation has also initiated nightly sweeping of five major markets at RDC District Centre, Shastri Nagar, Mohan Nagar and Vasundhara.

“With this, night sweeping has been initiated at a total of 20 major markets in the city. On suggestions of citizens, we may take up more markets that were left out when the scheme was started a month ago. Back then, we initiated the night sweeping project with 15 markets,” Singh said.

Gen (retired) Singh also laid down the foundation stone for other projects worth Rs 42 crore. These include 221 different works of construction of roads, boundary walls, reflective sign boards, LED street lights and submersible pumps.

“In all, 261 different projects have been dedicated to the citizens with the laying of the foundation stone by Gen (retired) Singh in Khoda. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had announced these funds for Khoda’s development during his visit to Ghaziabad (on August 31),” said KK Bhadana, executive officer, Khoda.

Khoda, situated adjacent to NH-24, has an estimated population base of nearly 5-6 lakh residents but faces challenges with creating and maintaining basic infrastructure like roads, drinking water, drainage and sewage, to support its population.

Khoda was declared a Nagar Palika in 2016 and will witness local body election for the first time in coming months.
