Survey pins 26 bottlenecks that choke Noida traffic

In a recent survey, the Noida authority and the city traffic police identified 26 traffic bottlenecks and a team of experts is studying the report on these points to suggest measures to decongest them. The authority officials were aided by a drone in identifying these points — Mahamaya Flyover, Sector 37 junction, Sector 71, Sector 60/61 intersection, Mamura Chowk, City Centre, Sector 15 intersection near Indian Oil building, Atta Peer Chowk, Atta Chowk near Sector 18 Metro station, Botanic Garden, Sector 12/22 and others.

The drone study took into account the traffic volume on Master Plan (MP)-1, MP-2 and MP-3 roads, Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) Road, Road Number 6 and other internal roads of the city that connect Noida with neighbouring cities. Officials said that the traffic volume on these stretches has increased multiple times over the recent years.

“These 26 points are choked due to various reasons. Slip roads, traffic signals, stop signs and zebra crossings are required to streamline the traffic. Encroachment of pavements and service lanes by street vendors and unauthorised parking on these roads are major reasons for traffic jams. A comprehensive study is underway and measures suggested by the experts will be executed strictly,” a senior official of the Noida traffic cell said.

Prabal Pratap Singh, superintendent of police (SP) for traffic, Gautam Budh Nagar, said,“The drone survey has captured images of autorickshaws and buses blocking traffic flow on the main carriageway at some of the places. We also observed that vehicles were stuck in jams due to a lack of free left turns.”

The traffic police fined more than 5,000 commuters in the last five months, seized their DLs and impounded more than 500 vehicles to improve the traffic situation, Singh said.
