India win big in junior and youth categories at women’s boxing meet in Serbia

The Indian women’s boxing contingent gave a good account of themselves at the seventh Nations Cup boxing tournament held in Sombor, Serbia. According to Boxing Federation of India (BFI), in the week-long competition organised from January 8-15, India claimed the overall title in both junior and youth categories.

In the junior group, India won as many as 13 medals, eight of them gold, three silver and two bronze medals to stamp its authority. Hosts Serbia took the third spot, while Kazakhstan finished second.

In the youth category, Indian boxers won three gold and one bronze medal. Ekta Saroj (46kg), Baby Rozisana Chanu (52kg), Poonam (54kg), Arundhati Choudhary (60kg), Vinka (63kg), Raj Sahiba (70kg), Sanamacha Chanu (70kg) and Komal (plus 80kg) were winners of gold medal, while Sangeeta (48kg) and Lipakshi (plus 80kg) won silver in their respective weight groups.

Arshi Khanam (50kg), Yashi Sharma (57kg) got bronze.

In the youth group, Jony (60kg), Lalita (64kg) and Nandini (81kg) dominated their respective weight divisions, while Rajabala settled for bronze in 54kg.
