Bhagalpur Acid Attack case: One arrested, SIT formed to nab others

Coming into action following the acid attack on a 17 year girl in Bhagalpur, a SIT ( special investigation team) was formed on Saturday by the Bhagalpur police and the victim has been sent to Varanasi for treatment. One person has been arrested in this connection so far.

“ We have formed a SIT to nab the culprits at the earliest. We expect to get early breakthroughs,” said SSP, Bhagalpur, Ashish Bharati. He said the SIT team would be headed by S K Saroj, city SP, Bhagalpur. Addressing a press conference, the SSP said he had a talk with his counterpart in Varanasi to extend all possible help to the victim in her treatment.

As per legal provisions proposal has been sent for grant of compensation to victim, Bharati informed.

The SSP, Bhagalpur said one Prince Bhagat had been arrested in connection with the incident and forwarded to jail in judicial remand. He added in connection with incident FIR has been lodged under sections 307, 457, 326Aand 34 of IPC and 25(1-b) and A 26/35 of arms act.

The father of the victim Gautam Sah, in his complaint to the police, has accused Prince Bhagat of carrying a bottle of acid and intruding in their house late yesterday night along with other accomplices. He said the intruders had poured acid on his daughter and taking hostage his wife at gun point. All the miscreants had covered their face when they entered the house of the victim.

However, there is no mention of sexual abuse of the victim by the miscreants in the complaint. The father of the victim runs an ornament shop in Aliganj locality. He and his son were at their shop when intruders entered their house and poured the acid on the girl. The motive behind the crime has not been ascertained yet.

Police officials the possibility of the 17 year old falling victim of the acid attack due to refusal of advances made by some youths in the locality was being looked into. “ So far, we have not got any clues,” said a senior police officer.

DSP Rajwant Singh (City), Bhagalpur, said a country made revolver of intruders was recovered from the room of victim’s house. Singh added FSL team is scheduled to visit place of incident today for investigation besides service of dog squad is also being taken to nab the culprits.
