A target of 250 proved too much for Sri Lanka as they were bowled out for 158 in 41.2 overs against Afghanistan. The result means that the Islanders have been eliminated from the Asia Cup in the very first stage. Chasing the target, Lanka got off to a terrible start losing Kusal Mendis in the very first over and never got going. Afghanistan spinners spun a web around the batsmen picking up six wickets. Thisara Perera was the top scorer with 28. Earlier, Afghanistan bowled out for 249 in their allotted 50 overs and Sri Lanka need 250 to stay alive in Asia Cup 2018. Rahmat Shah was the star with the bat for Afghanistan scoring a good 72. He was ably supported by Shahidi and Ihsanullah. For Sri Lanka Thisara was the star, picking up five wickets and giving away only 55 runs.
