Photos: Winter chill hits Delhi weeks before expected

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted November 5 to be a foggy day for Delhi with a minimum temperature of 11 degree Celsius as the national capital continues to experience minimum temperatures 3-5 degree Celsius below normal. According to the IMD's scientists, Delhi has been experiencing cold wave-like conditions because of cold north-westerly winds from the Himalayas blowing over the northern plains and subsidence of cold air over parts of the north-western region. The sudden influx of these winds has brought Delhi closer to its first early November “cold wave” in at least 30 years.
