Zanjeer (1973) is considered a game changer in Amitabh Bachchan's acting career. However, the classic action-drama also has a Diwali connection. The Prakash Mehra directorial's opening sequence is a Diwali scene in which a young Vijay Khanna witnesses the murder of his parents. The climax of Zanjeer is also during Diwali showcasing poetic justice when Vijay played by Amitabh Bachchan avenges his parents' death.

The song Dhik Tana from Sooraj Barjatya's Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! has a brief Diwali sequence. In the track, the family members get-together to celebrate the festival of lights as they rejoice over arrival of a baby.
