Spain and Portugal clashing this early in the tournament was always going to be a mouth-watering clash and the two sides did not disappoint. Portugal took the lead early through a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty before Diego Costa equalised. Ronaldo then put Portugal ahead again before Costa equalised in the second half. Nacho then scored a stunning volley to put Spain ahead and they seemed likely to take home all three points. However, Ronaldo scored his hat-trick after converting a wonderful free-kick. Ronaldo broke multiple goal scoring records in the course of the game, adding more feathers to his already illustrious hat.
