Photos: As lockdown extends, migrant workers take to the streets again

In the past few days, hundreds of migrant workers took to the streets of Mumbai and Surat, demanding they be taken back to their hometowns, complaining about the lack of food and also be paid their back wages. The protest started after authorities announced an extension of the ongoing lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis till May 3.

State tourism minister and senior leader of the ruling party Shiv Sena, Aaditya Thackeray, sought a road map to facilitate their journey back to their native places. “They don’t want food or shelter, they want to go back home,” Thackeray said, adding that the feedback from all migrant labour camps is similar — “that these workers want to go back”.
