Photos: Indian and Chinese troops face-off in Galwan, Ladakh

A violent face-off took place between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Ladakh’s Galwan valley on June 15 in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed and 43 casualties including injuries were reported on the Chinese side. Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a video conference on June 17, assured the country that the sacrifices will not go in vain. These are the first Indian casualties in a border skirmish with the Chinese troops since October 1975.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi observes a two-minute silence during a video conference on June 17 as a tribute to 20 soldiers martyred during the violent face-off in Galwan valley. According to an HT report on June 17, the rival soldiers exchanged blows, threw stones at each other and Chinese troops even attacked Indian soldiers with rods and nail-studded clubs during the brawl that went on for over six hours.
