Chhath Puja 2021: All you want to know about rituals of the four-day festival

During the four-day festival, devotees fast without food and water for 36 hours and take a holy dip in rivers, ponds, and other water bodies seeking blessings from the Sun God for the well-being and happiness of the family.

Chhath Puja, a festival dedicated to the Sun God, is mainly observed by the people from Bihar, Jharkhand and bordering areas in Uttar Pradesh. The festival will begin from November 8 with the 'Nahai Khai' ritual and will conclude on November 11 with devotees performing 'Usha Arghya.' (PTI)

On the first day of Chhath Puja, also known as Nahai Khai, vratis take a bath, wear clean clothes and prepare a prasad for Lord Surya. Chana daal and Kaddoo Bhaat is a popular prasad that devotees make on this day.(PTI)

The second day of Chhath is called Kharna where a prasad of kheer made with gud and arwa chawal is made. After having this prasad, devotees begin an arduous nirjala fast lasting for 36 hours.(PTI)

On the third day of Chhath Puja (November 10), vratis observe fast without eating or consuming even a drop of water. At sunset the vratis offer arghya to Lord Surya in a nearby water body, which is also known as Sandhya Arghya or Pehli Arghya. (PTI)

On the fourth and final day of Chhath Puja (November 11), known as Paran Din, devotees offer Usha Arghya or Dusri Argya to the rising sun standing with their feet dipped in a water body, and conclude their fast and distribute prasad.(PTI)
