Photos: Mumbai’s local trains resume service for essential workers

Mumbai's lifeline is back on track after a nearly three months of suspension due to the coronavirus lockdown. The city's local trains resumed services on June 15 to ferry essential staff as identified by the state government. The Central Railway and Western Railway have begun operating selective suburban services catering to essential workers with trains running at nearly 60% of seating capacity to ensure social distancing is observed. Services to the general public remain off bounds for now.

The Central Railways (CR) received the number of passengers boarding from railway stations from the state government and BMC. Employees were asked to report early and train timings have also been coordinated with office shift timings, a senior CR official told HT. (PTI)
