A second surge in Covid-19 infections, which has spread much more rapidly than the first one that peaked in September, has forced many states to impose fresh curbs. Authorities in Maharashtra, the state with the highest cases at the moment, have ordered a weekend lockdown that came in to effect at 8pm on April 9 and will end early on April 12. Mega cities such as Mumbai, the country's financial centre and Maharashtra's capital have already imposed a night curfew until April 30.
