Since 2000, the chemicals, which flow out in the Thakurpur or Charrial Canal, from the nearby 5000 garment dyeing factories, mainly Jeans, are increasingly polluting the water and also the environment.Due to synthetic dye, colour of canal water has turned into deep blackish blue causing various kinds of airborne diseases. Around 205 villagers of Rambon Bagdipara at Raghunathpur-II block in Purulia district dig a canal and a catchment area. While the canal would help them to supply water from the Damodar River to irrigate the fields, the catchment would help them to harvest rainwater.
