A stage collapse, robberies and misbehaviour with the police marred dahi handi festivities in some areas of the city on Monday evening.
In an incident of stage collapse, over 15 people were injured. The incident happened around 9:30 pm on Monday in Budhwar peth. The injured were rushed to the nearest hospitals and no other casualties were reported. The Vishrambaug police have registered a case in the matter against the organisers.
In a case of noise pollution and misbehaviour with the police, head of Aranyeshwar dahi handi utsav mandal and three others were booked by the Sahakarnagar police station officials. The complaint in the matter was filed by senior police inspector Anil Shewale of Sahakarnagar police station. The mandal and organisers were booked for holding the event and building the stage without police permission. The stage built for the purpose was blocking traffic at Aranyeshwar chowk in Sahakarnagar. When asked to stop the celebration, the organisers refused to do so. A case under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 143, 341, 283, 188, 34 of the Indian penal code (IPC) and Sections 5 and 5(a) of Noise Pollution Rules, 2000 along with Sections 135, 140 of the Bombay Police Act was registered at the Sahakarnagar police station against the four.
In another police action against a mandal, the Mundhwa police booked Suresh Vijay Ingale, head of Ghorpadigaon dahi handi mandal, and two other office-bearers including Sagar Giramkar and Akash Pujari for continuing celebration, with loud speakers, beyond the prescribed time limit. The complainant in the matter, police constable Suresh Maruti Kamble, 47, submitted that the event, which was supposed to end by 10pm, went on till 11:15 pm. A case under Sections 188 and 286 of the IPC was registered at the Mundhwa police station against the three.

{{/usCountry}}Three people were arrested by the Faraskhana police station officials for stealing a necklace worth ₹90,00,000 from a woman in the crowd gathered to witness the human pyramid on dahi handi. The complaint in the matter was filed by the woman's husband, Prasad Dalvi, 33, a resident of Karvenagar. One of the three arrested men was identified as Akash Mohan Dukre, 20, a resident of Chakan. He was arrested in a case under Sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of IPC at the Faraskhana police station. Another case of robbery was registered at the Vishrambaug police station after a 58-year-old Uttamchandra Sharma's gold chain worth ₹75,000 was stolen near Dagdusheth Ganapati temple. Both the robberies were reported to have taken place around 8:15 pm.
In yet another case, a group of three-four unidentified men were booked for misbehaving with a traffic policeman who was deployed at Natubaug chowk located along Bajirao road. The group of pedestrians were passing through the lane next to Raja Dinkar Kelkar museum while shouting and were creating a roadblock for vehicles passing through the narrow lane towards Natubaug chowk. When assistant sub-inspector Arvind Pawar of Khadak traffic division warned the men to clear the way and walk silently, the group started verbally abusing him while pushing him, the policeman submitted in his complaint. A case under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of IPC was registered against them at the Khadak police station.
