Three men have been arrested for assaulting a doctor and indulging in vandalism on the premises of the Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital in Erandwane, Pune. Dr Chetan Mahajar is the doctor that was allegedly assaulted.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar incident at the JJ Hospital in Mumbai, which led to a three-day doctors' strike there.
The three arrested men have been identified as Vitthal Baban Waghmare, 39, Siddheshwar Tanaji Gaikwad, 24 and Aniket Bharat Randive, all residents of Taljai vasahat in Pune. They were booked along with at least eight other people.
The wife of one Datta Waghmare was undergoing treatment at the hospital and was declared dead on Monday. Waghmare is accused of starting the agitation, but has not yet been arrested.
The agitators broke the glass of one of the hospital doors before throwing three chairs and two benches at the reception on the ground floor, according to the hospital's police statement. They caused a total loss of ₹30,000 by damaging a phone and computer screen, among other items
"She was suffering from a respiratory disorder, arthritis and some form of infection. This is what the doctors told us. We are investigating the matter," said police sub inspector (PSI) SD Jadhav, who is investigating the case.

{{/usCountry}}"We arrested the three and took them to court in the morning and they were granted bail yesterday (Monday) itself," said PSI Jadhav.
A case under section 143, 146, 323, 504 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (prevention of violence and damage or loss to property) Act was registered against the group of at least eight, at the Alankar police station.
