Five members of a family were killed and seven others injured when a tyre of the Mahindra Bolero (MH 20 AG 0939) jeep they were travelling burst and the driver lost control of the four-wheeler and hit a white Tata Tiago (MH 14 GS 9835) coming from the opposite direction, near Bhigwan village on the Pune-Solapur highway. The incident happened at 6 pm on Friday when the family was returning to their home in Nigdi after visiting Tuljapur, a holy place, in Osmanabad district.
The deceased victims included two women, two men and a child. The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to the highway police, the deceased have been identified as Prakash Ramchandra Gaikwad ( 67), Suniti Prakash Gaikwad ( 58) , Sandeep Prakash Gaikwad ( 40), Sheetal Sandeep Gaikwad ( 32) and Abhors Sandeep Gaikwad ( 5), all residents of Nana Nani Park in Yamunanagar in Nigdi. The injured passengers of Bolero have been identified as Pramod Prakash Gaikwad ( 32) and Hema Pramod Gaikwad ( 29).
Five passengers of Tiago were also injured. They have been identified as Shardul Bapu Gurav ( 22), Bapu Vishwanath Gurav (52), Kalpana Bapu Gurav (48) and Vaishnavi Bapu Gurav ( 20) , all residents of Pimpri -Chinchwad; and Saurabh Bajrang Gaurav (19) of Shivajinagar sustained minor injuries and were admitted to hospital.
The police had to employ gas cutters to take the bodies from the vehicle.

{{/usCountry}}“We got the information at 6:30 pm of the accident. We found that the SUV had crushed, after hitting the other vehicle after toppled over,” said Neelkanth Rathore, police inspector, attached with Bhigwan police station.
