Making an observation that as opposition parties did not announce the candidate for prime minister, all leaders of alliance partners feel that they will hold the post, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray asked whether people want Pappu or Sharad Pawar as the prime minister.

Thackeray was speaking at a public meet in Chakan while campaigning for Shirur Lok Sabha candidate Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, a three-time member of Parliament.

Thackeray said, “Despite differences in the last four years, Sena joined hands with BJP only for a strong leadership. Narendra Modi is a strong leader. We are fighting with BJP on farmers’ issue.”

He said, “Who is the candidate for PM post?”

Instead of taking Rahul Gandhi’s name, the Sena leader asked Pappu or Pawar. “Congress and alliance partners have announced to scrap the sedition law in their manifesto. Whether people will choose such parties? It is true that political parties should desist, as part of their campaigning, from indulging in any political propaganda involving activities of the defence force. The opposition parties are attacking the ruling party on the issue of surgical strike, but at the same time by raising questions on surgical strike, they are insulting soldiers,” Thackeray said.

Thackeray attacked Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar for insulting farmers in the past when the latter demanded water facility. He also criticised NCP candidate and their Shirur candidate actor Amol Kolhe. Thackeray said, “Kolhe did the role of Sambhaji Maharaj, but did not learn royalty from them.”

Cart race

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said that while bullock cart races have been popular in rural Maharashtra, they have a strong following in Shirur. Hence, the residents have been demanding the authorities to lift the ban imposed by a court order. “I will personally look into the matter and ensure that it would get sort out by our government,” Thackeray said.

I Choose congress candidate - Bapat

Girish Bapat, Bharatiya Janata Party leader, on Thursday claimed that he was the reason behind choosing the Congress party Lok Sabha candidate in Pune.

Bapat was addressing a public rally at Chakan along with Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray.

Bapat said, “Congress was not getting a candidate in Pune to contest against me till the last moment. Finally, I personally need to take care of the Congress candidate.”

Bapat indirectly hinted that he had chosen the Congress party candidate Mohan Joshi to contest against him.

The BJP leader expressed confidence of winning the Pune seat and asked Shirur candidate Shivajirao Adhalrao to book air tickets for both for going to Delhi.
