Prices of leafy vegetables, including coriander, fenugreek, spinach, chilli and peas, shot up by almost 20 per cent on Sunday.
According to the agricultural produce market committee (APMC), Pune, wholesale prices of leafy vegetables are expected to remain inflated for the next two days as supply has decreased drastically. “Scorching heat” has been affecting the supply of vegetables from surrounding districts to Pune, according to APMC officials.
"On Sunday, only 150 trucks carrying vegetables arrived at APMC Pune, which resulted in a sharp hike in prices," said Vilas Bhujbal, president of Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji market yard traders' and agents' association, Pune.
At APMC prices of spinach have increased from ₹300 - ₹400 to ₹500 - ₹600 per 100 bunches. Rates of fenugreek have increased from ₹300- ₹600 to ₹800- ₹1,200 per 100 bunches. The cost of chenopodium has gone up from ₹500 - ₹800 to ₹800 - ₹1,000. Coriander also saw a sharp rise in prices and will cost you Rs1,000 - ₹1,800 per 100 bunches. Last week, it only cost between ₹800 - ₹1,200.
According to APMC, there is a steady supply of potatoes and onions, but their prices have slightly increased due to increase in demand. A total of 55 trucks carrying potatoes and 5,000 bags of onions arrived on Sunday from Gujrat and Agra at APMC Pune. Onions and potatoes are being sold at ₹60 - ₹85 and ₹130 - ₹180 per 10 kilogrammes respectively.
