Luxury bus catches fire on Pune-Mumbai e-way, all passengers safe

The bus caught fire near Amrutanjan bridge at around 12:30 am on Saturday. Traffic on the expressway was affected for one hour.

A luxury private bus belonging to Neeta Tours and Travels and travelling from Mumbai to Pune caught fire near Amrutanjan bridge on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Lonavala around 12.30 am on Saturday.

According to the Lonavala city police, no one was injured in the accident. Speaking to HT, the bus driver Jagdish Madiwala (28), a resident of Shravanbelgaon, said, “We noticed smoke emanating from the rear end of the bus when we were near Amrutanjan bridge. I immediately stopped the bus on the corner of expressway and alerted the passengers to get down. Later, the fire spread within a few seconds but all passengers were safely rescued.

Chandrakant Jadhav, senior police inspector, Lonavala city police station, said, “Both the driver and 40 passengers were evacuated and no one suffered any injury. The passengers’ luggage was also unharmed. Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire and traffic on the expressway was affected for an hour.”
