The purpose of the MI cards is to make cashless travels in the city. In first phase, it would be used for PMPML and PMC related amenities only. In next phase, private taxis would also able to be a part of it.

Municipal commissioner Kunal Kumar introduced this scheme under the Smart City scheme to make the city more digital. The PMPML is handling this project.

The PMC employees on anonymity said that the PMC had deducted 80 from their salary in the month of February. Even after the completion of four months, the corporation has not handed over the cards to them.

Another officer said that the scheme was made mandatory for all employees without taking any prior permission from them. The Municipal commissioner took the decision to allot Smart Card to each employee.

The PMC employees raised the question that if the agency is giving smart cards at 80 for employees then why it is giving smart cards at 100 for students.
