The special investigation team (SIT), formed to investigate the alleged leak and passing of answer keys to several aspirants, had announced an award of Rs 1 lakh for information about Dangi, but it has yielded no positive result. The SIT has so far arrested 24 people, but Dangi has so far been a challenge.

Deputy superintendent of police Amit Bhatia, who is heading the SIT, told HT that the police are making "sincere efforts" to arrest the mastermind.

He, however, said the SIT will submit the status report in the Supreme Court by June 12. The police officer said a few beneficiaries are among the arrested people, but refused to divulge more details.

On May 4, Rohtak Inspector General of Police, Shrikant Jadhav claimed to have busted a gang involved in the suspected leak of AIPMT answers and arrested four people, including two dental surgeons and an MBBS student. According to the police the accused were arrested on May 3, a few hours after the exam.

The deadline was later extended to June 12.
