Anti-smoking drive: Task force seizes e-cigarettes, liquid refills in Jalandhar

Four e-cigarettes and six liquid refills were recovered by a task force constituted by the health department from a store 3G HUT in Mota Singh Nagar market locality on Friday morning.

Four e-cigarettes and six liquid refills were recovered by a task force constituted by the health department from a store 3G HUT in Mota Singh Nagar market locality on Friday morning.

The members of the force included food safety officers Rashu Mahajan, Harjot Pal Singh and drug inspector Amarjeet Singh. They recovered flavoured tobacco from the store.

The task force sealed the e-cigarettes and liquid refills under the Drug and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and sent the samples to the state lab.

The store owner was also issued challans under the Act and a case would be launched in the court of the chief judicial magistrate who may impose a fine of `2 lakh or announce jail sentence up to three years if the reports show availability of nicotine.

The task force has also issued eight challans to owners of tobacco sellers in under the Cigarette and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003 and collected the fine.
