Former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) minister Sucha Singh Langah, who was booked by Gurdaspur police on charges of raping a woman constable has resigned from all party posts.
Langah, who was a core committee member of the Akali Dal, said he had resigned from all party posts and from the membership of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
“I have full faith in judiciary. Therefore, I am submitting to the process of law by surrendering in the court tomorrow (Saturday). I have firm belief that truth will come out and justice will be done to me,” the former minister said.
Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who accepted Langah’s resignation from all party posts with immediate effect, said that he had received a communique from Langah stating he wished to tender his resignation from all party posts and submit himself to the process of law.
“I have accordingly accepted the same,” Badal added.
Langah, who served as the agriculture minister in the SAD-BJP government from 2007 to 2012 was booked on Friday on charges of rape, extortion and cheating on a complaint by a woman employee of the state police, police said.
