Mogambo lost and found: The mystery story of a judge’s pet in Chandigarh

This Mogambo had himself fallen prey to the ‘bad guys’ and now his return has left everyone happy, including the police. A six-month-old pit bull terrier, named after the memorable Bollywood villain with a penchant for dunking enemies in acid, was allegedly stolen from outside the house of a district court magistrate here on Saturday.

Two days after being stolen, the six-month-old pit bull pet, Mogambo, owned by a judicial magistrate (first class), returned home. Mogambo was lifted from outside the judicial officer’s government house on Saturday in Sector 19. However, on Monday, Mogambo, returned home from the back gate of the house.

Sector-19 police station house officer inspector Dalip Rattan said, “The pet has returned home on its own. We are still looking for the suspects who are school students.”

Police said that the incident took place on Saturday after which the police were informed about the incident. Police suspect that school students roaming around on a Honda Activa near the house stole the puppy. According to the police, a vegetable vendor saw two teenagers stealing Mogambo.

Police said one of the teenagers allegedly came inside the house and took Mogambo in his lab and fled with his friends on the scooter. After searching for the puppy for a day, the police registered a case of theft at the Sector-19 police station on the complaint of a naib court.

Residents took to social media to take dig at police

Harman Singh Sidhu, who runs an NGO on safe driving, said, “Police have registered a case of theft. A complainant is made to write ‘lost’ not ‘stolen’ but that’s irrelevant. I wonder how police concluded it’s stolen not lost.”

He added, “While our house was under construction the water metre was stolen, because it was connected to the main line, but it was recorded as lost.”

A city-based RTI activist, Ram Kumar Garg, in his Facebook post , said, “ The law and order situation is bad in UT . A dog belonging to a judicial authority was picked up and nothing could be done, no one has claimed the responsibility for such an anti-animal task. God knows what will happen to jurisdictional police station staff perhaps traffic naka will be started in Sector 19 too.”
