Mocking the ‘Coffee with Captain’ campaign as “too western”, party leader Jagmeet Singh Brar has said he would go on a ‘Jeera lassi with Punjabis’ tour, which will have a desi flavour.
Brar was speaking on Saturday in Ludhiana, where a day before, Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh interacted with the youth over coffee as organised by poll strategist Prashant Kishor. To Amarinder’s recommending his expulsion from the party, Brar said if all 10 senior leaders of the Punjab Congress agreed, he’d “go out with folded hands”.

He said he had suggested the party high command to form a 15-member advisory committee of state leaders ahead of the Punjab elections. “I ask for neither election ticket nor any post in the party but only that we fight united,” said Brar. He said Ludhiana MP Ravneet Bittu was making a good effort to bring all leaders together and enrol youngsters.
Brar also accused his party and its main rival, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), of playing “a friendly match in Punjab”. Over the speculations of his joining the Aam Aadmi Party, he said: “There has been no discussion but the AAP, no doubt, is doing well in Punjab.”

Speaking on the agrarian crisis and drug menace in Punjab, Brar said he would start a signature campaign against these from Baisakhi. “The crores of rupees being spent on political rallies should be donated to the families of the farmers who committed suicide,” he said.
