Three women of tribal family hacked to death near Jharkhand capital Ranchi
Police said it appeared that one of the women was murdered in the house, while the other two were taken to the bushes, tied to a tree and attacked with a sharp weapon.
Three women of a tribal family in Ranchi’s Bundu were hacked to death in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, police said on Tuesday.
A sharp object was used to attack the women on their neck with the intent to behead them, police said.
Their semi-decapitated bodies were recovered from bushes within a radius of around 200 feet from their residence at Nailgada village, about 50 km from state capital Ranchi.
Police sources said prima facie it appeared that one of the women was murdered in the house, while the other two were taken to the bushes in the vicinity of their house, tied to a tree and attacked with a sharp weapon. The weapon used to kill the women was not recovered from the spot, sources said.
Ranchi SP (rural) Raj Kumar Lakra said the police were investigating the case from different perspectives, as it could also be an incident of witch-hunting which is prevalent in rural areas.
“For now, it is difficult to comment on the reason behind the murders. It could be a land dispute, property dispute or even witch-hunting,” Lakra said.
One of the victims was identified as Bibi Devi, wife of one Chandramohan Munda. The other two have been identified as Lakkhimani Devi and Taramani Devi, who were married to Munda’s brothers, police said.
