The hospital administration on Monday formed a two-member committee to probe the incident and asked it to submit its report in 48 hours.

“We have formed a committee comprising deputy medical superintendent, Dr Sanjay Kumar and deputy director (administration) Girija Shankar to find out the facts. The committee will submit its report in 48 hours,” said Dr RK Shrivastava, director, RIMS.

Sources said the patient was admitted in the emergency ward on Sunday when few of his friends had an altercation with the doctor. “As seen in the video, the doctor was instigated,” said a source from RIMS.

The video shows the junior doctor and the patient’s attendant having an argument about hospital rules and the doctor using expletives and threatening words against the man with a crowd watching the incident. The medico then grabs the man by the collar, beats him up, drags him to the emergency ward gate, leaves him there and goes back inside the ward.
