Marathi film Lapachhapi premieres at Brooklyn Film Festival

At the ongoing Brooklyn Film Festival, a premiere of Marathi film Lapachhapi was held, the first time an Indian or Marathi film has been premiered there.

Marathi film Lapachhapi premiered at New York’s Brooklyn Film Festival, the first time that an Indian and a Marathi film has premiered at the festival, 19 years since its inception.

The 10-day festival, which started on June 3, has a total slate of 107 films to screen. One of these was the Vishal Furia directorial Lapachhapi, which was showcased on Sunday. “The response of the audience was superb. They emoted at the right places and we knew that the film has struck the right chord not just with the Indian diaspora but the locals in the US as well and that was the marketing strategy from day one,” S Ramachandran, the film’s associate producer, said in a statement.

Furia shared that the audience “understood the film despite the fact that we were showing the film in Marathi albeit with English subtitles”.

The horror film stars Pooja Sawant, Usha Naik and Vikram Gaikwad in lead roles.
