The term was first coined by the British publication Metro UK, and can be defined as a situation where one’s partner decides to hide the relationship from their friends, family and social media. This doesn’t necessarily mean your partner isn’t into you. We ask psychologists and counselors Shivani Misri Sadhoo and Anil Sethi to shed light on this phenomenon.

1)They could be embarrassed by you

One of the most obvious reasons why you can be stashed is because your partner feels embarrassed by you. However, they decide against dumping you because they want to wait till they find someone better.

They might be feeling so, and hence don’t want to make that effort of introducing you to their friends and family. They’re not posting anything about you on social media as well for the same reason.

3)They don’t want to share you

Your partner could have insecurity issues and doesn’t want you to socialise with anyone. They might want to be the centre of your attention all the time. They become jealous or at times feel rage, when that’s not the case.

4)They are loners

The reason doesn’t always have to do something with you, it could be them, too. Your partner might not be talking about you because he or she might have a small social circle. And they could be feeling embarrassed because of that as they don’t want you to think of them as loners.

5)They have weird friends and family

We all have that rude friend or gossipy aunt who we’d like to keep away from our partners. So, there’s a chance that you’re being stashed because your partner doesn’t want to put you through that torture.
