Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, last year's Australian Open runner-up, has won her second-round match at the season's opening Grand Slam.

The fifth-seeded Ivanovic beat Alberta Brianti of Italy 6-3, 6-2 Wednesday, to advance to a third-round match against either Russian Alisa Kleybanova or Stephanie Cohen-Aloro of France. Brianti received treatment from a trainer for a lower back injury when trailing 3-0 in the second set and took a medical time out. She returned to break Ivanovic's service in the next game, but Ivanovic returned the favor in the seventh game and then served out the match.

Ivanovic lost last year's final to Maria Sharapova, who is not defending her title due to a shoulder injury.
