Rohan Bopanna, Florin Mergea knocked out in first round at Queen’s Club

India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Romanian partner Florin Mergea were knocked out of the Aegon Championships after losing in the first round of men’s doubles at the Queen’s Club in London on Tuesday.

The Indo-Romanian pair failed to capitalise on their first-set win and went on to suffer a 6-3, 3-6, 10-12 defeat in the opening round at the hands of the French pair of Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

In men’s singles, top seed Andy Murray advanced to the second round of the tournament after overcoming the in-form Nicolas Mahut of France 7-6 (8), 7-6 (1).

The world number two will now lock horns with countryman Alijaz Bedene, who made it to the next round after beating Frenchman Benoit Paire 7-6 (6), 6-7 (7), 6-4.

The Queen’s club grass-court tournament is a tune up event for Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season.
