A Series of Unfortunate Events trailer: NPH does his best Jim Carrey impression

The first full-length trailer for Netflix’s new event show, A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring Neil Patrick Harris has been released.

The first full-length trailer for Netflix’s new show, A Series of Unfortunate Events, was released online on Friday.

A Series of Unfortunate Events will start streaming on January 13.

Based on the popular children’s book series of the same name by Lemony Snicket (a pseudonym for author Daniel Handler), the show is a semi-reboot after a feature film was released to lukewarm response back in 2004.

But the show looks very similar to the film, which starred Jim Carrey in one of his most memorable late-period roles as the dastardly Count Olaf. Here, the role has been handed down to Neil Patrick Harris, who by the looks of it, is borrowing heavily from Carrey’s performance.

The story, in a nutshell, is about the Baudelaire orphans, who, after their parents’ sudden demise, are moved from one oddball foster parent to another. Meanwhile, Count Olaf hatches increasingly far-fetched schemes to loot the fortune they’ve been left.

Add to this Tim Burton-esque visuals, secret societies, and the possibility of more seasons (it looks like they’re only adapting the first 3 books for this one) and we have the weekend of January 13 sorted.
