It is always a bad idea to give your viewers shock after shock – but little substance – in every scene, because things start feeling boring and lazy when you finally decide to take it slow. This week’s Game of Thrones is a case in point.

As a great many important characters died some really nasty deaths in the first two episodes of this season, it came across as quite a disappointment when the third didn’t have a single unexpected decapitation or strangulation.
Oathbreaker would have been a good watch if we had some great debates, conversations or even a powerful dialogue or two that the series throws at us ever so often. However, the episode was lacking on all these fronts. Even Tyrion – whose simple talk with the dragon was the best part of the previous episode (regardless of Jon Snow waking up and all) – seemed like a bored drunkard.
It was simply frustrating to watch inconsequential scenes take up precious minutes of your run-time, especially at a juncture when the series is just seasons away from wrapping itself up and you are nowhere close to getting your characters in line. I am hoping on my life that Game of Thrones doesn’t pull a How I Met Your Mother on us, wasting an entire season on petty stories and haphazardly tying up the loose ends in just a single episode.
Also, the promised flashback to Ned Stark’s rescue of Lyanna could disappoint a lot of you. And rightly so, because it is something fans have been waiting so many years for – just so they can confirm their R+L=J theory.

{{/usCountry}}The best part of the episode was Arya’s training, and the return of a forgotten character. Although the way he/she has returned may not mean well for him/her.
