Confirming media reports that she is the new lead in popular TV show Mere Angne Mein, Richa Mukherjee told Hindustan Times, “My character is very meek in the beginning and takes the charge of her life only after some time.”
Richa steps in as the lead in Mere Angne Mein after the previous character Riya (Ekta Kaul) died. Ekta has quit the show and reportedly plans to marry soon. When HT approached Ekta, she did not say she plans to marry right now but hinted at the same nonetheless. “I am not working on any new show right now. I just need a break for some time. And yes, like a normal girl, I would want to marry,” she said.
Sharing how she got her new role, Richa said, “I recorded my audition at home and sent it across. The makers of the show immediately liked it. I was then called for a mock-shoot and finalised for the role.”
Mere Angne Mein is about the Shrivastava family - a typically rich family from Mughal Sarai (Uttar Pradesh). The family matriarch, Shanti (Krutika Desai Khan), handles the family affairs and has complete control over the family.
The makers of the show liked Richa’s look from the audition and kept her hairstyle and simple makeup for the character as well.
Elaborating about her role in the show, Richa said, “I have mostly played bindaas girl who either seduces men (Nagarjuna Ek Yodha ) or bugs them for attention (Begusarai). With Mere Angne Mein, I will play a meek woman who is serving to guests at the wedding of her own husband. She meekly undergoes torture for a long time before she turns into a confident woman who speaks for herself.”
Richa has been shooting for her new show for two weeks now. “I think the set and people around are very different here. I learn a lot here. It is very organised and we don’t got for different takes for close-ups and long shots. It is a smooth and organised one take,” she added.
Richa has earlier worked in several TV shows including Begusarai, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Punar Vivah - Ek Nayi Umeed and Suryaputra Karn. She also essayed the role of younger Kussum in Kussum (2005).
