Amid war setbacks, Ukraine imposes new sanctions on Russia's arctic energy sector | Zelensky | Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a fresh package of sanctions targeting Russian entities involved in resource extraction in the Arctic, describing the region as one of Russia’s most lucrative “cash cows.” Zelensky urged Western partners to match Ukraine’s restrictions, as has been done with sanctions on the Russian tanker fleet and oil companies, emphasizing that curtailing Moscow’s Arctic revenues is crucial to undermining its ability to fund the war. The new measures synchronize with the EU’s 19th sanctions package, aiming to reduce Russia’s export earnings in energy, technology, and electronic components by tens of billions of euros annually.
