Covid update: Cat drug test for humans; India work from home study; vaccine test

From 10 states and Union Territories in India accounting for 76% new infections in the country, to researchers studying whether a drug used on cats may be effective on humans too - here are the top news updates on the Covid-19 pandemic. The vaccine candidate developed by Oxford University and pharma major AstraZeneca, and undergoing trials in India entered Phase 3 of the tests at Sassoon Hospital in Maharashtra's Pune. The Serum Institute of India, the world's largest vaccine manufacturer, is conducting the trials. Meanwhile, researchers are testing whether GC376, a drug used on cats to treat Covid infection, can also be administered on humans. The drug inhibits the virus' ability to replicate in cats, thus ending the infection. On the economic front, a study conducted by Assocham and Primus Partners across 8 Indian cities, found that 74% respondents favoured work from home (WFH) suggesting apprehensions over safety in public transport. Also, the government informed Parliament that over 11,600 Indians in foreign countries had suffered from Covid till September 10. Over 370 Indians had died due to the disease in foreign countries.
