The Supreme Court on July 22 declined to initiate suo motu proceedings or urgently list a petition alleging police excesses during the July 20 crackdown on student protesters in Delhi. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant told the petitioner not to “waste” the court's time by submitting videos and advised the petitioner to take proper legal recourse. The matter was mentioned before a bench headed by the CJI, which also included Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana. The petition sought action over the Delhi Police's handling of thousands of students who marched towards Parliament during the “Chalo Sansad” protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party.
