- Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was detained during a protest in Punjab. Badal was detained by police while he was leading a massive protest against the state govt. SAD leaders and workers gathered outside Punjab CM Amarinder Singh's house in Siswan. Security forces were seen using water cannons on agitating Akalis. Protest was called to demand the dismissal of state Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu. Badal has also sought CBI probe into alleged irregularities in sale of Covid-19 vaccines and medical kits. Jasbir Singh Garhi, state president of SAD's new ally BSP, also joined the demonstration. Last week, the Akali Dal and BSP had announced they will contest the 2022 state elections together.
